David Starr’s passion for racing sparked at a young age as he trailed the heels of his father, a racing crew chief, to the track each week. Starting out at his local Houston dirt tracks, Starr climbed the ladder with victories and championships. He learned the skills and mechanics behind racing on both dirt and pavement.
In 1998, Starr made his Truck Series debut driving the No. 9 for Reher-Morrison Racing in five races. The following season, he competed in the Truck Series full-time.
In 2002, he earned his second full-time ride where he drove the No. 75 for Spears Motorsports. Later that season, he won his first race at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway after starting the race on the pole and leading 28 laps.
Since his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut in 2000 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, Starr has been competing with various teams over the last 22 years. His full-time tenures include: Day Enterprise Racing, Hooligan Racing, Jimmy Means Racing and MBM Motorsports.
Starr made his first appearance with SS Green Light Racing with Jeff Lefcourt in 2010 driving the No. 21 Chevrolet at Chicagoland, where he finished in the top-10. Starr made a few appearances throughout the 2020 “pandemic” season with SSGLRwJL.
In 2022, Starr returned to the Mooresville, N.C.-team and crew chief Jason Miller with two primary sponsors TicketSmarter and Special Report with Bret Baier.
Off the race track, Starr is a father to his sons David Jr. “DJ” and Vance and a husband to his beautiful wife Kim.
Starr is also the owner of Team Texas High Performance Driving School at Texas Motor Speedway and host of the podcast Let’s Go Racing with David Starr.
As a true Texan, Starr currently resides in Dallas, Texas.
Over his extensive racing career, he has always remembered his roots and appreciates those who have supported him throughout his entire career.
