SS GreenLight Racing Rebounds in Atlanta Mist (February 25, 2019)

Race 2 of 33: Rinnai 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway
Track Details: 1.5-mile oval / 163 laps
No. 08: Gray Gaulding Result: 16th
No. 07: Ray Black Jr. Result: 23rd
Team 08 PURE Chevrolet Camaro:

After an incident on pit road that knocked Gaulding out of contention last week, Gaulding and Crew Chief Patrick Donahue were determined to bounce back at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Xfinity Series qualifying was scrubbed due to a lingering mist and the field was determined by last year’s owner standings. Gaulding and the 08 PURE Camaro would roll off from the 35th postion.

The green flag fell and Gaulding wasted no time. Halfway through the opening stage, Gaulding was the biggest mover of the race, gaining 18 positions to put him seventeenth on the score board. With great adjustments by Patrick Donahue, Gaulding managed to work his way to as high as the fifteenth position during the second stage. The 08 PURE Camaro ran between fifteenth and seventieth for the remainder of the race, ultimately bringing home a sixteenth place finish for Bobby Dotter and SS GreenLight Racing.

Gray Gaulding:

“We had a lot of speed this weekend and charged through the field. We passed a lot of cars and let everybody know we were here. This is definitely something to build on moving forward.”

Bobby Dotter Thoughts on the 08 Team:

“It was a good solid weekend for this group. After starting in the back because of the weather, it was fun watching that 08 move forward. We passed a lot of cars and had a great finish.”

Team 07 Isokern Fireplaces & Chimneys Chevrolet Camaro:

Mother nature started out on top, as unrelenting mist determined the starting grid. Ray Black Jr. started his day off from the 20th position in his No. 07 Isokern Fireplaces & Chimneys Chevy Camaro. After being caught up in a late race incident in Daytona the 07 team were excited to rebound this weekend.

Ray Black Jr. fought the handling of his car at the beginning of the race. Black said he was good on entry, but was plowing tight center-off. After the first stage, Black and the 07 team sat in the twenty-sixth position. Crew chief Jason Miller immediately went to work, making positive adjustments for Black. By the end of stage two, Black managed to move up to the twenty-second position. When it was all said and done Black brought home the 07 Isokern Fireplaces & Chimneys Chevrolet Camaro in the twenty-third position.

Ray Black Jr:

“This day was pretty crazy with the threatening weather conditions today. Our day was really up and down, but Jason did a great job making adjustments with my feed back. We’ll take a top 25 and get ready for Vegas.”

Bobby Dotter Thoughts on the 07 Team:

“I’m proud of the performance from the 07 team this weekend. They showed great speed in practice and were able to continue that into the race. I’m excited for them to take this solid momentum into Las Vegas.”

Looking Ahead:

SS GreenLight Racing bounced back after Daytona with two great finishes at Atlanta this past weekend. The team will now set it’s sights on continuing that momentum into Las Vegas. Coverage of the Boyd Gaming 300 will begin Saturday March 2nd at 4:00 PM ET on FS1.
